Help With Audio Files
|
All the samples featured on the
Slightly Miffed WebSite are in one of two formats:
.MP2 Files - CD Quality
MPEG Layer II Encoding (41.1Khz, 16Bit, Mono)
Get an MP2 player for the
PC,
MAC,
UNIX or
AMIGA machines and start enjoying quality sounds!
.WAV Files - Demo Tape Quality
Microsoft PCM .WAV file (11Khz, 16bit, Mono)
WAV files sound great! Only problem is, they tend to be massive as the standard format is uncompressed.
.AU Files - Am Radio Quality
Standard Unix Audio Format (8Khz, 8Bit, Mono)
Most modern web browsers will handle AU's. These are encoded to work on all platforms.
Why MP2's ???
If your soundcard can cope with 16bit samples (and most modern soundcards can), we recommend that you download an MPEG audio player and use the MP2's we have provided.
MP2's will give you CD quality sound, without having to download huge files. (A typical 3 minute song sampled at CD quality saved as a WAV file is about 30meg!).
Without going really techie (as if I know anyway), this is because of modern day compression techniques which enable audio files to be compressed more efficiently.
It makes sense to use MP2's really!
Configuring Netscape For MP2's
First, download an MP2 audio file player for your computer. Follow the instructions included with the player for installing it onto your system.
Next, simply click the Miffed MP2 Test File below.
Your web browser should then say something like "Unknown file type" and ask you "How to handle this file?".
Click the "Pick App..." or "Configure a Viewer" button (depending on your web browser) and select the location of the MP2 player you just installed.
Now, save your options (if they aren't saved automatically)... You are ready to start enjoying MPEG quality sound!
